Understanding Regional Toll Service

Regional Toll calls (also known as "intraLATA" or "local toll") are calls within your city, county or state that carry additional toll charges. These calls are outside of your local calling area, but are not considered long distance calls because the calls within your Local Access Transport Area (LATA).

Most states are divided into several different LATAs, please see the example below, which are defined by the Federal Courts and determine the boundaries of regional toll calls. Delaware, Maine, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, and Vermont have only one LATA and therefore all calls outside of the local calling area but within these states are considered regional toll.

Calls outside your LATA are considered interLATA or long distance toll calls (in-state, state-to-state, international). Regional toll is not associated with long distance service and will not be handled by your selected long distance provider (if different than your local carrier) unless specifically requested.
